Felicia Carroll, M.Ed. MA is a licensed marriage family therapist and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. She is in private practice in Solvang, California and the founder/co-director of the West Coast Institute for Gestalt Therapy with Children and Adolescents, LLC. Felicia is a master’s graduate of the University of Oklahoma and University of California at Santa Barbara with credentials in educational psychology, child development, and counseling psychology. She was a classroom teacher for 12 years and on the staff at Esalen Institute/Gazebo School prior to becoming a therapist. She is a Certified Gestalt Therapist through the Gestalt Institute of Los Angeles.
Felicia has taught at Gestalt institutes in Europe, Latin America, and Asia in addition to offering training programs in the United States. Her international experience as a trainer has been in Germany, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Georgia, Poland, Morocco, Italy, Brazil, Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea. She was a presenter for a series offered by the China Play Therapy Institute. She is often a guest lecturer at conferences on child psychotherapy and play therapy. She has published several chapters and articles about Gestalt therapy with children and on topics related to Gestalt theory and practice including serving as the guest editor for a special edition of the International Journal of Gestalt Therapy on Gestalt therapy with children and adolescents, which was published in fall 2010. Her (2019) article, Gestalt Play Therapy, was included in a special edition of the APT (Association for Play Therapy) Magazine. She was the invited author of the Foreword in Play Therapy in Asia (2019), Siu and Pon (Eds). In 2024, she was invited to contribute to four books on various issues in child therapy, including the Second Edition of Play Therapy: A Comprehensive Guide to Theory and Practice, Crenshaw, Stewart, and Ray (Eds.)
Program Description
Presentation Goal: The goal of this two-hour presentation is to interest and excite the participants to learn more about Gestalt Therapy with Children and Adolescents.
Content Relevance: The content is relevant to all licensed clinicians who are interested in clinical work with children and adolescents.
Content Level: Introductory to those unfamiliar with Gestalt Therapy with Children and Adolescents & Intermediate for those reviewing

- Discuss the Organismic Cycle of Experience
- Explain the nature of physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral symptoms
- Name the elements of the Therapy Process as initially developed by Violet Oaklander
- Describe the goal(s) of Gestalt Therapy
