Southwest Riverside County Chapter of CAMFT invites you to join us for the most amazing mandated Law and Ethics Workshop in person in Southern California where you can learn, eat, and enjoy yourself with us in Temecula’s beautiful wine county! 

Course Description: 
In this six-hour presentation p
articipants will come away  having knowledge of the BBS complaint process and a firm legal and ethical foundation for handling dangerous patient situations.  Participants will  be able to identify important considerations when deciding how to handle their Medicare eligibility as well as identify the disclosures MFTs are legally and ethically required to provide to patients. Participants will describe Medicare telehealth laws and understand the impacts a decision to opt-out of the Medicare system may have on their patient, employment, and contract relationships.  

Learning Objectives  

  • Define who has standing to file a complaint with the BBS.
  • Identify how the BBS Enforcement Analyst may investigate a BBS complaint.
  • Describe a psychotherapist’s options when in receipt of a BBS inquiry without the appropriate authorizations.
  • Describe and discuss the “duty to protect,” as it arises from Tarasoff v. Regents of Univ. of Calif., Ewing v. Goldstein, Ewing v. Northridge Hospital and section 43.92 of the California Civil Code.
  • Describe and discuss the “duty to report,” based upon Welfare & Institutions Code, sections 8100(b)(1) and 8105(c).
  • Describe and discuss relevant exceptions to confidentiality and the importance of consultation when working with a patient who communicates a serious danger of violence to another.

Presenter: Sara Jasper, Esq. has been a member of the State Bar of California since 2008 and joined CAMFT as a Staff Attorney in 2011. Before coming to CAMFT, she worked as the Legal Liaison and Administrative Officer for the Sacramento Police Department and as an Associate at Middleton, Young & Minney, LLP, where she practiced education and employment law. During law school, Sara clerked for the California Judicial Council, Center for Children, Families, and the Courts and for the National Center for Youth Law. Since joining CAMFT, Sara has become a Certified Association Executive and earned her certificate in Nonprofit Organization Management. 

Registration Deadline:  All registrations must be received by Friday, September 26th at 5pm. 

Payment:  Payment by credit card only. No checks will be accepted.

Cancellation Policy:  Due to the logistics of this SWRC-CAMFT Event, any request for cancellation must be received no less than ten (10) days prior to this SWRC-CAMFT Event. Additionally, a request for cancellation is subject to a $25.00 administration fee. No cancellations for this SWRC-CAMFT Event will be available less than ten (10) days prior to this SWRC-CAMFT Event.

Continuing Education:  This lecture–format course meets the qualifications for six (6) hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LE's, and LPCCs required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. This course level is for beginners, intermediate, and advanced practitioners. This course is intended for people working in mental health care, public health, education, justice, or social services. Southwest Riverside County Chapter of CAMFT (Provider # 94446) is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LEPs, and LPCCs. Southwest Riverside County CAMFT maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. CE certificates will be provided on site at the close of the workshop. Full day attendance and completion of course evaluation is required to receive your certificate.

Please put all grievances in writing about a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, the style of presentation, workshop offering, it's content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered.
